March Town manager hoping for big gate as Hares start home UCL campaign to Godmanchester Rovers

Ash Taylor is hoping for a bumper turnout tomorrow night as his side begins their home season against Godmanchester Rovers at the GER.

The Hares boss says the energy of a big crowd will inspire his players as they look to make it maximum points from their opening two fixtures in the United Counties League Premier Division South.

"I'm looking forward to being back at home and seeing the fans. We want maximum points but we know Godmanchester Rovers won't be easy.

"I want a lot of fans to come down to the ground on Tuesday and see what this team is all about.

"If we get a load of fans down and there's good energy in the ground, I'm sure we will respond with a good team performance."

Taylor was pleased to make a winning start to the new UCL season with a 2-1 opening-day victory at Easington Sports.

The Hares were forced to come from behind before picking up all three points in the Premier Division South clash in Oxfordshire.

Taylor said: It was a tough game today, a really, really tough game. We knew coming here would be difficult with us drawing 1-1 the previous two seasons.

"We prepared for a tough game and that's exactly what it was and the difference between today and pre-season was so different, the physical side and the energy from the opposition.

"They are a really good outfit and any team trying to pick up points here will have to work hard to get anything.

"We went behind after 20 minutes and they had a bit of momentum and to be fair it could have easily been 2-0 as we had to defend some scary moments, which we did.

"The important thing is when you face adversity in the game it's about how you deal with it and I felt we dealt with it well.

"We've come back well, scoring from a corner and then we had a chat at half-time about how we could go on and win the game.

"We had to look at a few things as they did cause us a few problems. The lads took the information on board and we went on to score the winner.

"After that, it was about managing the game and we did that well to get the three points. There were some moments where we could have perhaps managed it better but to come here and get three points in the first game of the season I'm over the moon."

Jack Withers and Sam Green cancelled out Oliie Rose's opener for the hosts to seal the three points for the visitors.

Taylor picked out defender Withers for special praise.

"I thought Jack was tremendous today," revealed Taylor.

"The type of game it was and the way they played he was crucial to it.

"They were very direct at times and when that's happening someone like Jack you need for his aerial ability, although we know he can play with his feet too.

"He justified his selection because there is competition for places in that backline."

The Hares, who are in Extra Preliminary Round FA Cup action at Newmarket on Saturday, announced last week that Denny Escorcio had returned to the club for a second spell.

On the arrival of Escorcio, Taylor said: "Denny is a local lad and known as being one of the most talented players to ever play for March Town.

"He was playing professionally in Portugal but unfortunately suffered a really bad injury and has had a few years away from the game.

"It will be a process and patience is required to get Denny back to a level where he knows he needs to be but the improvements from session one to now are clear to see."

March Town team v Easington Sports: Gill, Bucciero, Saunders, Withers, Emmington, Green, Burrows, Tait, Cotton, Seymour-Shove, Williams. Subs: Brumby, Gillies, Cavozzi, Cowie.
