March Town Ladies exited the Cambs Senior Invitation Cup after a defeat to Newmarket Town
March Town Ladies went down to a 5-0 defeat in their Cambs Senior Invitation Cup quarter final against Newmarket Town.
The Hares were missing some key players against their higher league opponents, but were unlucky not to take the lead when Abby Grist broke through.
Player of the match Peggy Thurlby made some great saves throughout the game, but could do nothing to stop Newmarket taking the lead from a corner.
Ewelina Jerzak forced a great save from the keeper before Newmarket scored a second on the stroke of half time.
The opponents struck early in the second half, before Grist again went close and Lexi Waters' free kick was well saved. Newmarket struck twice more.
Coach Gary Davis said: "It was a great performance against a classy team and we have learnt a lot from the game." The Hares are back in league action next Sunday away to Histon.
