March Town are looking forward to an away trip at Newmarket Town tomorrow night (Tuesday) after securing their first away point at Thetford on Saturday, where they also secured a clean sheet.

The Hares have been the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division's entertainers, scoring 30 goals and conceding 34 in their 13 games before the trip to Norfolk, so manager Ash Taylor was delighted with a clean sheet.

"It was our first away point and only our third clean sheet, and our first away from home, so that was really pleasing," said Taylor.

"We worked hard defensively in midweek training and also set up slightly differently, playing a 4-4-2 rather than our usual 4-3-3. It worked and we limited Thetford to few chances. They had gone six unbeaten before us so that was a good point."

And it probably should have been all three points but for a controversial refereeing decision in the final seconds of the game. March cleared a corner and Jack Friend held off two defenders before splitting the defence to find substitute Jack Frohawk, who was one-one-one with the keeper when the ref blew the final whistle.

"I've never seen anything like it and neither had their management team," said Taylor. "The referee did come and apologise after the game and said he's made a mistake. Unfortunately that mistake cost us three points."

Taylor said he was looking forward to taking his 16th placed Hares to eighth placed Newmarket, who lost 3-1 at league leaders Gorleston at the weekend. On Saturday,March entertain 15th placed Brantham Athletic, who shocked title chasing Wroxham 1-0.

Drew Barker and Tarran Moxon are unavailable through injury.
