MARCH BOSS: 'We need to be at it from the start'

When COVID-19 halted the football season six months ago, March Town were in two cup finals and sitting in a promotion place.

But what could have been the most glorious season in the club’s 134 year history ended up in disappointment as the cups were declared null and void, along with the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division One North.

Now the Hares must do it all over again, starting with the first league match of the season, at home to Great Yarmouth Town on Saturday.

There are then trips to Framlingham Town the following weekend and King’s Lynn Reserves on Tuesday, September 15, before Saturday and Tuesday home games against hotly-fancied pair Lakenheath and Mulbarton Wanderers.

Arran Duke’s men have every chance of promotion this season, having kept all of last season’s squad and added striker Jack Frohawk from Downham Town.

Duke told the Citizen: “We are looking forward to Saturday and getting back to normality. We’ve been waiting for a long while.

“We had great support last season and hopefully a lot of them will be back to cheer us on against Yarmouth.

“We have got to be at a good level right from the start this season as, from what we know, the division is stronger than last year.

“We were inconsistent at times last season which is why we were not in the position we wanted to be when everything stopped, but we think we can improve on that.

“We had got a really good run going when the season was ended.

“We’ve kept all of last year’s squad and added Jack Frohawk, who gives us speed and goals.

“Mulbarton and Lakenheath are going to be good again, as well as Norwich CBS, so we’ve got to be at it right from the start.

• March wrapped up their pre-season games with a 5-1 victory over Cambridgeshire County League Kershaw Premier Division side Over Sports last Wednesday.

Scorers were Craig Gillies (2), Toby Allen (2) and Jack Frohawk.
