March lose seven goal thriller to Lakenheath

March Town 3, Lakenheath 4

A depleted Hares side lost a seven goal thriller at home to fellow league new boys Lakenheath this evening (Tuesday), despite fighting back to equalise on three occasions.

Both sides came up to the Eastern Counties League Premier Division from Division One North this season, but whereas Heath now have four points from their two games, the Hares have lost both.

Missing central defenders Jamie Short and Max Mattless, plus Brody Warren, Stefano Cavozzi and Harry Clark, March's cause was further rocked when another centre back, Dean Miller, limped off in the first half.

Lakenheath took the lead after 13 minutes when a cross from Tom Thulborn was tapped home on the run from close range by Alex McIntosh.

But striker Jack Friend opened up his own and March's account for the season in the 21st minute, slotting home when one-on-one with visiting keeper Charlie Beckwith.

Three minutes later, however, and Heath were in the lead again, Thulborn back heeling home his second of the season after the home defence failed to clear.

However, the Hares came back again, this time Friend turning provider to tee up strike partner Craig Gillies to smash home in the 29th minute and make it 2-2.

The visitors took the lead for the third time six minutes before the break when Sam Hawley's chip hit the bar and the prolific Shaun Avis prodded home the rebound.

But March came out on the front foot for the second half and their attacking paid off when Josh Burrows shot in off the post in the 75th minute.
