March Town exit FA Vase following seven-goal thriller at home to Mildenhall Town
The March Town management team of Ash Taylor and Seb Hayes had no complaints after seeing their side crash out of the FA Vase following a 4-3 home defeat against Mildenhall Town on Saturday.
The Hares have been excellent in the United Counties League Premier Division South this season but their form in cup competitions has eluded them.
Early exits in both the FA Cup and UCL KO Cup were followed by another one at the hands of Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division title challengers Mildenhall on Saturday.
Joint boss Seb Hayes said: "We didn't get started and as soon as we did get back into the game, we let them straight back in it.
"It was a very frustrating afternoon as we haven't played our level of football, which we work hard on, and we haven't defended well, something else we always work hard on."
The Hall took a second-minute lead through Tanner Call but his effort was cancelled out by Josh Burrows for the Hares eight minutes later, although Call made it 2-1 in the 13th minute and then completed his hat-trick in the 16th.
Declan Rogers made it 3-2 in the 50th minute from the penalty spot, but the Suffolk outfit scored again through Olly Hughes in the 55th minute before Rogers netted his second in the third minute of added-on time.
Fellow boss Ash Taylor said: "I echo Seb's comments and what disappointed me the most is that we started slowly and gave them a foothold in the game.
"They scored within a couple of minutes and we looked lethargic and sloppy on the ball. We showed a bit of character to get back into the game but as soon as we scored we let them straight back in again, we never had any momentum in the game.
"At the start of the second half we came out and put in the energy levels we expect but we've killed ourselves today and the goals we've conceded have been sloppy and way below our normal standards.
"It wasn't just our defence, it was all through the team. The work rate, the endeavor, and the desire wasn't anywhere near where it needed to be.
"We've had an honest chat in the dressing room with the players and whether we need to change things is something Seb and myself will have to decide."
The Hares have a quick chance to put things right when they host St Neots in the Hinchinbrooke Cup at the GER tomorrow night (Tuesday).
"It's a local derby, we've got to turn up on Tuesday and put a performance in," said Taylor.
"We've got this competition and also the Cambs Invitation Cup to contest and the league.
"In the league we've been terrific but we've been awful in the cups and have been nowhere near it, that's the reality of the situation.
"We are looking for a positive reaction. This club hasn't had silverware for so long and that's something we want to put right.
"Whenever we have had a difficult day the players have always reacted positively in the next game, so hopefully that'll be the case on Tuesday."
