March have the appetite of more cup success on the eve of Cambs Invitational Cup clash at home to Cambridge City

March Town's appetite for cup success will continue tomorrow night when they look to claim a higher-league scalp in the Cambs Invitational Cup.

The Hares host Isthmian League North Division outfit Cambridge City at the GER having already reached and fourth round of this season's FA Vase and the sem-finals of the Hinchingbrooke Cup.

"They're a step above us so it won't be easy," said March's assistant boss Simon Roberts.

"They will be buoyant as they have a brand new stadium and will come here confident and as favourites, but it's a cup competition and anything can happen.

"We're in good form here with two wins from two so we'll also go into it confident and looking to cause an upset.

"I firmly believe this squad of players can beat anybody on their day. A couple of lads who didn't play on Saturday will get their chance, so there will be rotation."

March won 2-1 at home in the United Counties Premier South to ninth-place Coventry United who had beaten them 2-0 last month.

Matty Foy got both their goals in the 18th and 37th minutes to make it nine for the campaign before Scott Hammond pulled one back for the visitors after the break.

The Hares - without a league game on Saturday - move up to fourth place in the table and are four points clear of Hinckley in sixth who are just outside the play-off places.

Reflecting on Saturday's win, Roberts said: "I thought the lads did exceptionally well in the first half by going 2-0 up and managing the conditions well.

"The pitch held up well but it was a little bit sticky. In the second half, we dropped off and they came at us a bit. They've been in good form so it was great to get the three points.

"They are in the chasing pack for the play-offs so I'm really happy for the lads."

On the contribution of two-goal Foy, Roberts added: "He's got great experience being an ex-pro. He's great as a defensive midfielder and he's great playing as a 10.

"He's got his fair share of goals for us and is very good in the air. He is a good lad in the changing room and an even better lad off the pitch.

"For me, he is always a danger and he offered us a lot of composure today. He's good with instructions, talks, and is a good player."

Roberts ended by welcoming the FA Vase home draw against league rivals Daventry Town on January 11.

"We had a decent crowd here during Storm Darragh so in nicer conditions let's hope the March public will come out and get behind us.

"Daventry Town are in our league so it's quite fortunate we've drawn a side who we know something about.

"It was a good battle at their place last time. We went down to 10 men but battled out a 1-1 draw.

"They've made a good few signings since then so they will be stronger, but we're at home and will the home crowd behind us so hopefully they can help take us into the Fifth Round."
