Parson Drove boss Robbie Harris is confident a few good results will boost their Thurlow Nunn First Division North hopes

Parson Drove joint manager Robbie Harris believes his side only need a couple of good results to propel themselves up the Thurlow Nunn First Division North standings.

Drove are set to face off against a Norwich CBS side this weekend (August 28) who are only one point ahead of them after five matches.

Harris is looking forward to the encounter and believes it is a good opportunity to earn a second win of the season.

“We definitely hope to compete against them,” he said.

“I know a little bit about them, but not a great deal.

“A lot of games in this league will involve going into the unknown to a certain extent, but that can also work in your favour.

“You concentrate more on yourself when you’re not thinking about them, when other times you can get caught up worrying about what the opposition have rather than what you have.

“It’s a good opportunity for us to look at our squad and our strengths and play towards those, rather than thinking too much about the opposition.”

With a number of teams on a similar number of points at this stage in the 2021/22 campaign, Harris is certain that a few good results could be hugely beneficial.

He told The Citizen: “If you look at the table at the moment, everybody seems to be beating everybody.

“I think there’s probably going to be three or four teams that will pull away at some point. But we’re in with a good eight or ten teams that, with a couple of results, could propel up the table.

“On the flip side, a few bad results can see you drop quite a long way as well. So it’s going to be an interesting season.

“There are lots of new teams and there have been lots of changes to the league with a couple of promotions.

“It’s good for non-league football to have that change, because there have been too many times when the leagues have been the exact same year in year out.”

Drove are coming off the back of a 2-2 draw with Debenham LC that Harris feels was a missed opportunity.

“To be honest, I think it was probably two points dropped,” he said.

“We played quite well and we were definitely the better team in the first half. Then we had a mad five or six minutes where we conceded two goals and had a man sent off.”

A Ryan Lennon double did please Harris at the weekend

“He obviously had a couple of chances in our previous game and wasn’t successful, but he’s a great player. He’ll always keep battling on and working hard,” he said.

“He definitely got his rewards on Saturday. We’ve never had any issues with his work rate or effort, he’s one of the players that will put in a shift no matter what game it is.”

However, a red card for Jack Mockford came in at the opposite end of the spectrum for the joint manager.

“It’s twice in two games for Jack, unfortunately,” he said.

“He’s obviously a great player, but that side of it does let us down a little bit. It’s obviously a bit frustrating for us that we were in a great position and in the space of five minutes it all fell apart.”
