Former March captain takes Sri Lankan time to T20 final
Former March Town Cricket Club head coach Harry Vaheesan has been appointed team manager of Jaffna Stallions in the Sri Lanka T20 league and has taken his new team to the final.
Harry, a UK level 3 coach, spent several years coaching at The Avenue and also played locally for Doddington Cricket Club for many years.
Known as the Lanka Premier League, the competition includes five teams and the Stallions won five of their eight group matches before beating Dambulla Viiking in the semi-final on Monday.
They are due to meet Galle Gladiators in the final tomorrow (Wednesday).
All 23 matches are being played at Hambantota, behind closed doors.
The Stallions squad includes South African and Yorkshire CCC opening bowler Duanne Olivier, former Pakistan Test player Shoaib Malik and Nottinghamshire CCC wicket keeper Tom Moores.
Hearing the fantastic news from afar, March Town Cricket Club secretary Les Mills said: “May I offer the club’s congratulations to Harry Vaheesan on his appointment as team manager of Jaffna Stallions in the 2020 Sri Lanka Premier Cricket T20 League.
“From 2016 to 2019 Harry was our head coach. He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and won the ‘Club Person of the Year’ in his last season before returning home over a year ago to Sri Lanka. We wish him well in his new position.”
During his time at March Town Cricket Club, Vaheesan helped to establish them in the Whiting & Partners Cambs and Hunts Premier League where they finished fourth in 2019.
