Despair for Chatteris just days after elation

Three days after the joy of winning the North Cambs Junior Cup there was knockout despair for Chatteris Town as they were beaten in the semi-final of another competition on penalties.

The Cambs County League Kershaw 1B side drew 0-0 at 1A promotion hopefuls Great Shelford Reserves in the last four of the Cambridgeshire Junior Cup, before losing 6-5 on sudden death penalties.

In Kershaw 1B Benwick Athletic moved away from the relegation area with a thumping 5-1 home win against Alconbury, James Harness notching a hat-trick to make it 18 for the season and Dillon Stevens and sub Max Devlin Bailey with his fifth of the campaign also on target.

Mid-table Wimblington won 4-1 at Fordham Reserves in Kershaw 2B, Sean Saxby, Dale Richardson and Alexander Knowles (2) getting the goals.

Fen Tigers Engineers kick-started their promotion challenge with a 10-1 thrashing of home side Manea United in Kershaw 3C. Hugo Bryant claimed a hat-trick, there were braces for George Terry, who reached 16 for the season, and sub Rueben Beaney, to make it eight for him, while Matthew Allen, Dean Joyce with his 12th of the campaign, and Jack Rudkin were also on target.

Tigers may need to win all nine remaining games to claim the title, but seven victories would guarantee them promotion.

AFC Walpole Reserves still lead Kershaw4C after a 9-2 thrashing of bottom side Manea United Reserves. Micah Baxter led the way with five goals, Joe Reed helped himself to three and Manea also scored an own goal.

While the Honey Badgers seem certain of promotion, Outwell Swifts still look slight favourites for the title after edging past Mepal Sports 2-1 in a below-par performance, Adan-Jay Lewis with his 38th of the season and Callum Moles on target. Seven wins from their final eight fixtures would clinch it for Swifts.

In the same division, Chatteris Town A lost 1-0 at home to AFC Ely and Guyhirn Reserves were beaten 3-2 at home to Lakenheath Casuals

Fenland teams failed to progress out of the ChromaSport Peterborough League Cup group stages. Tydd finished fifth in group A, despite beating Oundle Town 1-0, with Kai Scott-Henson scoring their goal.

Wisbech Town Reserves ended up fourth in Group C after a 6-0 thrashing at Stilton United, and Leverington Sports ended fourth in Group D after a 4-2 win at Crowland Town Reserves, Dan Roberts scoring twice and Kieran Bates and Phil Robinson also netting.

Long Sutton Athletic Reserves are flirting with relegation from Division Two after losing 2-1 at Stamford Belvedere Reserves.

Leverington Sports Reserves beat Cardea Reserves 4-2 in Division Three, Grant Thompson scoring two, Craig Bradshaw netting and an own goal completing the tally, while in 5B a Jamie Balding goal saw Leverington Sports A off the bottom with a 1-0 win over Sawtry Reserves.

Upwell Town drew 2-2 at home to Dersingham Rovers in Division One of the MG Building Maintenance North West Norfolk League, with goals from Thomas Diggines and Jamie Leet. Marshland Saints lost 2-1 at home to leaders Watlington Sports & Social Club, Nigel Jackson netting.
