Long Sutton Hockey Men’s Firsts MoM Alex Canham nets treble as City Of Peterborough 3rds hit for six
LSHC Men’s First 6 City Of Peterborough 3rds 2
Long Sutton entertained Peterborough in their penultimate game of the season and built on their excellent form since Christmas.
With Matt Braginton deputising for the working Brad Whitmore the 12-man Sutton squad started well.
Sutton opened the scoring with a well-taken goal from Will Taylor from a short corner and this was added to by Josh Baker to give Sutton a two-goal cushion. MoM Alex Canham then added a third to give a lead of 3-0 at half-time.
The defence of White, Fox, Burton and Baguley worked well in front of the excellent Braginton – who’s one of three keepers in his household!
Half-time chats were positive – so Sutton promptly conceded two goals quickly to give Peterborough hope!
Sutton, however, were not to be denied – they came again and, when East was fouled by the keeper, Canham stepped up and finished the flick well to give Sutton a two-goal cushion again. Sutton pressed forward to increase the margin; Collingwood-Smith, Synott and Ellis working well to help provide chances for more goals.
Taylor scored the fifth Sutton goal with a good finish and Canham completed his hat-trick with a deflected finish from Taylor’s cross.
Post-Christmas Sutton have had the form of champions – a season of two halves; one with points and a pitch, one without!
