Cambs Nomads 1 Wisbech Men 1

Wisbech travelled to Cambridge at an earlier than usual time and started the game brightly despite having the bare 11.

Nomads grew into the half though and were unlucky to not go ahead when a short corner drag flick crashed against the bar. Wisbech defended well though, and the score at half-time was 0-0.

The second half was a different story with the relegation hit side creating the more chances.

Wisbech took a deserved lead thanks to a stunning Ben Tarratt finish on the break. The reds were comfortable for most of the half but Nomads began to apply more pressure and pressed high up the pitch. With three minutes to go, as is customary this season, the opposition snatched an equaliser to their delight and Wisbech’s dismay.

Weighing up the two halves, though, the draw was perhaps a fair result. It could have been worse were it not for a Jason Esser clearance off the line from a short corner with 30 seconds left on the clock.

Another game where the result could have been so much different but things just didn’t quite go their way. Many thanks to Nomads for moving the push back time to accommodate the wedding goers and congratulations to the new Mr and Mrs Welcher!

Long Sutton 0 Wisbech Ladies 2’s 13

Due to lack of players this week only 11 players were in action for the seconds on Saturday which didn't appear to impact on the team at all.

Wisbech had most of the play with very good movement of the ball but were struggling with the bounce of the new Sutton pitch. The goals started rolling in with some good work on the right hand side by Emma Baker putting some good crosses into the D where plenty of players were queuing up to score: Oliwia Bolka 4, Baker 4 with her last coming from a reverse shot from acute angle, Alana Pritchard 2, Lucy Prior, Lou Sandall and Sue Robinson.

The opposition were not very strong and made Wisbech play to their level but this allowed them to move the ball well all over the pitch and round the back.

Many candidates for PoM but it went to Bolka.

Many thanks to all umpires, volunteers providing teas and pitch side support.
