Wisbech Ladies 2nds 4 March Town 1

Wisbech put the pressure on from the start in this local derby, scoring from a very well-worked short corner combining Sue ‘Swampy’ Robinson and Lou Sandall, who finished.

Another well-worked short corner saw Sam Pritchard connecting well with the ball to make it 2-0 in EWL Division 3NW.

March came back stronger after half-time with Wisbech giving the ball away in defence.

March took their opportunity but Emily Thomas cleared the ball from a strike from outside the D.

March quickly followed up, making it 1-3.

Wisbech made the most of their well-worked short corners, with Pritchard scoring again.

Wisbech PoM: A great performance once again by Emily Thomas, making some important saves.

EML DIVISION 2N

Cambs Nomads 1

Long Sutton Men’s 1sts 3

Sutton in their penultimate game of the season took the scalp on a windy day in Cambridge of the title-chasing Nomads.

Sutton took to the pitch with a new formation of 4-1-4-1; but Nomads seemed to work out this system quicker than Sutton did, carving out six short corners in the first 15 minutes.

However, Fox, Baguley, Burton and newly-restored Oldfield withstood everything thrown at them.

Ellis moved into central midfield, where the rested Batten was absent.

Chances were made and missed, including an open goal by Canham; then the first goal arrived.

Jacob Synott worked well, not for the first time, and from the corner Canham scored from an unconventional drag shot.

Sutton pushed on with Taylor, Markillie, Jacob Synott and Ellis particularly impressive, as well as the returning Cliff in goal.

Second half goals came from poacher Sam Markillie after veteran Nick Ellis’s mazy run and shot; and – following a Nomads rally and yet another short corner well-worked routine making ther score 2-1 – an ‘improvised’ short routine from Baker and Canham completed the scoring.

Sutton came away with a well-deserved victory.

Scorers: Sam Markillie, Josh Baker, Alex Canham.

MoM: Nick Ellis.
