Home defeat for March
March Town were beaten in our featured game this week, going down to a 61-run home defeat at home to Southill Park.
After being asked to bat, the visitors posted 246-8 in their 50 overs, Shae Pooley the pick of the home bowlers with 4-43 from ten overs. Callum Young took 2-29 off ten and captain Samuel Clarke also bowled ten overs, taking 2-48.
In reply, March made an awful start, losing both openers for ducks. However Will Steventon (37) and Brandon Phillips (60 from 73 balls, including five fours and two sixes) put on 96 for the fourth wicket.
Andrew Mills with 22, Clarke with 13 and Roidwick, 11, also chipped in but March were bowled out for 185 off 46.3 overs.
In the East Anglian Premier League, Wisbech remain just outside the drop zone after a home draw in their crucial relegation clash with bottom-of-the-table Horsford.
After being asked to bat, the visitors posted an impressive 286-5 declared, Kieran Haynes taking 3-47 from ten overs and Jonny Garner 1-15 from three.
In reply, Wisbech managed 190-8 from 68 overs, Josh Bowers hitting seven fours in his total of 85 from 170 balls, Ryan Clark 17, Jamie Gollands 16, Jamie Seabrook 15, captain James Williams 12 and Josh Porter 10 not out.
Horsford took 17 points from the match and Wisbech just seven, but they still lead the Norfolk side by 15 points.
There were wins for Chatteris and Wisbech 2nd in the CCA Senior League Division One. Chatteris won by six wickets at home to Longstanton Grasshoppers. After being put into bat, the visitors were bowled out for 54 in 25 overs, and the home team rattled off 55-4 from 11 overs.
Wisbech 2nd won by 17 runs at Fulbourn Institute. After being put into bat, Wisbech scored 195-6 from 45 overs, opener and captain Dom Stannard scoring 67, fellow opener George Purell 22, wicketkeeper Ross Gardner 10, Tom Buck 40 and Simon Freear an undefeated 22.
Wisbech then bowled out their opponents for 178 from 43.4 overs, Joe Dunning taking 3-32 from 7.4 overs, Freear 3-44 off eight, Gardner 2-36 and Brodie Ellis 1-29. Wisbech are now fifth but Chatteris still bottom and 20 points from safety.
In Division Two, March 2nd are in the drop zone after losing by 172 runs at Saffron Walden 3rd. March asked the home team to bat and they raced to 266-3 off 45 overs, Mark Deas, Robert Tombs and Harry Lefevre taking a wicket each.
March were then bowled out for 94 from 21.4 overs, opener and captain James Hilliard scoring 39, and Karl Anderson 29 as home bowler Arthur Jones took a brilliant 6-8 off 6.4 overs.
Chatteris 2nd took the bragging rights in the Division Three North derby, beating home side Wisbech 3rd by 115 runs. The visitors were put into bat and scored 212-7 from 40 overs, opener Oli Bailey hitting nine fours in his 84 from 98 balls. Liam Boxall hit 57 from 58 balls, including five fours, wicket-keeper and opener Ciaran Bailey scored 28 and Peter Gunn 14.
Colin Freear took 2-46 off eight for Wisbech, with a wicket each for Henry Gowler, John Mallett and Amber Crossley-King.
In reply, Wisbech were 97 all out from 31.1 overs, opener Freear scoring 20 and Louis Avis 24. Gunn took an impressive 3-9 from eight, Jago Pearson 3-19, Oliver Tilbrook 3-25 and Liutaueas the final wicket of Avis with his only ball. Chatteris are now in fourth place, overtaking Wisbech, who drop to fifth.
Wisbech 4th won by 50 runs at Longstanton Grasshoppers 2nd in Division Four North. Wisbech were asked to bat and scored a modest 138 all out from 29.5 overs, the opening duo of captain Martin Woollard and wicketkeeper Jacob Phillpott scoring 38 and 24 respectively and Chris Middleton 44.
The Cambridge side were then bowled out for 88 from 165.3 overs, Elliott Peck taking 4-11 from four, Middleton 3-35 off four and a wicket apiece for Joe Pennells, Jay Modhvadia and Mckenzie Mills. Wisbech are still bottom of the table, however, 53 points from safety.
In the same division, Wimblington lost at home to Sutton 2nd by 10 wickets and remain third from bottom.
