Wisbech St Mary just not good enough in either box as they fall to Whittlesey thrashing
Wisbech St Mary 0, Whittlesey Athletic 7
Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division One North
Saints were given a sobering lesson in teamwork and finishing this afternoon as they fell to a sixth defeat in six, leaving them rock bottom of the table.
The home side have some good, young individual players, but they don't play as a team and are not decisive enough in either penalty area.
The visitors, on the other hand, are well drilled, strong in defence and clinical up front, where Jack Carter and James Hill-Seekings caused Saints problems all afternoon.
With manager Stuart Beckett attending a family wedding, assistant Alfie Tate was in charge, and saw his team more than match Athletic for the opening 15 minutes, going close when Charlie Rudland's low effort was saved after good work by Matty Harris-Hercules in the eighth minute.
But the visitors then scored twice in seven minutes, Dunmore finishing from 15 yards after 16 minutes and Hill-Seekings making it two in the 23rd minute. Saints enjoyed plenty of possession for the rest of the half but never looked like scoring.
They came out fighting after the break, however, and the hard-working Rudland just missed getting on the end of a Harris-Hercules cross on the hour, with the goal gaping. And that miss was crucial as Hill-Seekings rounded Adam Groves in the Saints goal to score Athletic's third just three minutes later.
Jack Carter made it four from the spot in the 72nd minute and Hill-Seekings lashed home his hat-trick goal in the 81st. To their credit, Saints heads didn't go down, but there was still time for two more strikes, Hill-Seekings grabbing his fourth three minutes from time and his fifth deep into injury time.
