AFC Emneth claim title and promotion




AFC Emneth gained the Cambs County League Senior A title and promotion to the Premier Division with a 3-0 victory over third placed Orwell on Saturday.

Lucas Ablett, Ben Jimson and Warren Jolly scored the goals which sealed a fourth successive promotion for the Honey Badgers, who have not lost a league game all season.

Emneth will be facing Wisbech St Mary next season after the Saints were unsuccessful in their bid for a top five place and a possible return to senior football.

But St Mary rounded off the season with a thumping 5-1 home victory against relegated March Town Reserves, William Hawes (2), Jordan Goult, Tommy Hunt and Spencer Singleterry scoring the goals in 25 second half minutes after the visitors had led at the break.

On Tuesday evening, James Rose scored for bottom placed Hares as they lost 3-1 at Newmarket Town Reserves.

Chatteris Town guaranteed their Senior B safety with two home wins in four days. On Wednesday evening, goals from Sam Bond and sub Adam Egerton saw them beat Great Shelford Reserves 2-1, and on Saturday, Jack McLoughlin scored the only goal as Debden were beaten 1-0.

Wimblington gained promotion from 1B with a 4-0 win at Benwick Athletic, four days after beating the same side 6-1 at home. Alexander Knowles hit four on Tuesday, with Daniel Harradine and Brandon Ransome also on target.

On Saturday, Knowles scored again to make it 24 for the season, with Ben Matthews, Nick Ward and Jermaine Watson also on target. Wimblington need four points from their final three games to guarantee the title.

Outwell Swifts continued their march to the 3B title with a 10-0 away win at Soham Town Rangers A, Jack Brand grabbing four to make it 23 for the season from 21 games, Adan-Jay Lewis three to make it 31 from 21, sub Ben Langmuir with two and Terry Davis also on target.

AFC Emneth Reserves look hot favourites to go up with them, and they followed up Tuesday’s 3-0 home win over Houghton & Wyton with a 5-3 victory away against the same opponents.

Lewis Clayton, Ben Garner and Warren Jolly scored in midweek, with a hat-trick from Jake Hopkinson, one from Ethan Goodale and an own goal doing the damage on Saturday.

Promotion is still in their own hands for fourth placed Doddington Three Lions, who have games in hand over their 4B promotion rivals. A goal from Joe Waters was not enough as they lost 2-1 at third placed Soham United on Saturday, but on Wednesday they had enjoyed an impressive 2-0 win at second placed Swavesey Institute Reserves, Kai Scott-Henson and Joshua Ingram netting.

Guyhirn lost 2-0 at Swavesey on Saturday, but already-relegated Manea United Reserves shocked leaders Waterbeach Colts 4-2. Mid-table March Academy Adults lost 2-1 at home to Stretham Reserves, four days after being beaten 3-1 at Hartford Rangers Reserves, where Joshua Kirby scored.

Chatteris Town A were beaten 6-1 at home to Alconbury Reserves on Tuesday evening, Benji Roberts scoring, but on Saturday they finally recorded their first win of the season, a whopping 6-1 at Willingham Wolves. Roberts got four of them, with Ben Kimberley scoring twice.

On Wednesday evening, Upwell Town were thrashed 10-1 at Beach, sub Shakeel Walker getting their goal.

Leverington Sports’ incredible pull away from Peterborough League Premier Division relegation area continued on Saturday with a 4-2 win at Oundle Town, making it five wins on the trot.

Tydd are still in the thick of it, however, after losing 2-1 at home to title challengers Uppingham Town, after a Matthew Cousins effort had seen them lead at the break.

In Division One, yet another defeat for Wisbech Town Reserves on Tuesday evening, 8-0 at home to Holbeach United Sports, has seen them slip towards the relegation zone.

It was a bad week in Division Two for Leverington Sports Reserves, losing 2-1 at home to Whaplode Drove Rovers on Tuesday evening and 5-1 to visiting Hampton on Saturday, Freddie Dye netting on Tuesday. Long Sutton Athletic Reserves drew 1-1 at Deeping Rangers Development on Tuesday evening, Bradley King netting.

On the same evening, Sutton Bridge United drew 3-3 at Whittlesey Athletic A, Matt Eaton getting a brace and Jack Murley also on target.

Leverington Sports A lost 2-1 at home to Whaplode Drove Reserves in Division Four.

Second placed Marshland Saints beat Watlington SSC 1-0 in Division One of the North West Norfolk League, David Abbott netting. In Division Two, Saints Reserves lost 6-1 at Reffley Youth Reserves.
