Thorpe's debut win at Marshland St James
There was a shock result in the recent match at Buttonhole Lake in Marshland St James.
Buttonhole run 16 qualifiers, with each winner booking their place in the grand two-day final .
On his first ever match Ian Thorpe chose to fish with sweeetcorn as his bait against some recognised pole anglers. Ian netted 66lbs 1oz from peg 21 to earn a place in the £1,500 final.
Tuesday night saw the resumption of floodlit matches, with Richard Rushton on peg 6 taking the glory with 37lbs 4oz in a three hour 30 minute match.
Mark Grange is currently winning the Turners Burners points cup with nine points.
Day tickets are producing some nice carp to 16lbs at the moment, with tench, perch, roach, rudd and barbel all coming out.
