Wisbech driver Licquorice's sweet banger performance

Conditions were terrible at the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday for the staging of the 2018 2L Banger Tyre Bay/King’s Abbey Taxis World Final, where three monsoon-length showers flooded the track and pit area.

Drivers, race teams and officials heroically worked miracles to ensure that the event could go ahead.

There was little for Wisbech fans to cheer in the 2L Bangers, although James Licquorice did put in a great performance in the last chance race to win an entertainer award which saw him book his place on the back of the World Final grid but, along with Wayne Linsdale who had already qualified for the race, he failed to complete the distance in the main race.

Lee Clarke successfully defended the title he won in 2017 – becoming the first driver to do so in its 30-year history.

Karl Morris continued his recent progress in the 1300 Stock Cars with a fantastic fourth place finish in the final after a fourth in his heat – Kent driver Tom Keep took a heat and final double. Dean Moat – like many drivers – struggled in the horrendous conditions and only had a ninth place in the first heat.

Louie Cottrill continued his recent good form in the Junior Bangers where, despite suffering from some bad luck, he managed a third place finish in the final and a fourth place finish in his heat. Cottrill looked a likely winner of both these races only to encounter back markers in the closing stages.

Racing at the Adrian Flux Arena on June 16 includes the 1500cc Banger East Anglian Teams.
