Robbie Neal, 10, top performer at Wisbech Samurai Karate School 2019 Championships at Thomas Clarkson Academy and duo bag three golds
Samurai Karate School held its 2019 School Championships at Thomas Clarkson Academy.
It was the biggest-ever championships with over 70 individual entries and 17 team and pairs entries.
The large crowd of spectators were greatly entertained by the competitive action, with parents and family seeing students' displays.
The event was proudly sponsored by Edge Plastering of Wisbech.
Some of the sections were so closely contested as the standard was so good, with many medals being decided by tie break or play off. For many this was their first competition.
Sensei Steve King said: "Many were doing things that 12 months ago they did not think possible. We had ladies competing who have made massive life changes since taking up Karate.
"One was walking with two sticks 12 months ago another has had a hip replacement. While one has lost over a stone in weight since starting.
"The children’s section clearly demonstrated the massive growth in their confidence, belief and ability as a result of training in Karate. We are all so proud of them all."
Top medal winners on the day were Amber Crossley-King, three golds and a silver; and Euan Shaw, three golds.
Robbie (The Robster) Neal, aged 10 (above), was crowned as performer of the day, with a well controlled performance in taking gold in his Junior Kumite section.
The buzz will carry through to next weekend's 20th birthday party. The celebrations continue on November 24 with England EKF Kata coach Sensei Ady Gray visiting for a seminar.
