Kingfisher Tyler nets win double

Chatteris Kingfishers competed for the first time in several years in the Mendis trophy in Wisbech, against Norwich Swans, Dereham Otters and Wisbech.

Coach Andrew Jakeman was extremely pleased with his young squad, with a little help in the 15-year category, despite finishing in fourth place, as a lot of the swimmers had to swim 100m races in higher age groups.

The final result was Norwich Swans 204, Dereham Otters 180, Wisbech 142 and Chatteris 139.

The squad managed to swim 27 personal best times, with four first places, eight seconds and 14 thirds.

First places were reached by Liam Oliver in the Open 100m front crawl in an amazing time of 0.56.47.

Tyler Thomas in 13/u 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly, who also swam to second place in the 15/u 100m butterfly (all three in personal best times) and the Open 4 x 50m front crawl relay squad (Gary Smith, Matthijs Nooteboom, Mark Thompson, Liam Oliver).

Second places: Chloe Richardson in 15/u 100m backstroke (PB) and breaststroke, Poppy Ludgate in 15/u 100m I.M., Mark Thompson in Open 100m butterfly and 100m I.M., Finley Harper in 13/u 100m breaststroke and Gary Smith in Open 100m breaststroke.

Third places: Megan Dawson (12) in PB times in 13/u 100m breaststroke and 15/u 100m front crawl, as well as a PB for her 13/u 100m backstroke; 10-year old Chloe Cook 11/u 100m I.M., as well as PBs in 13/u, 100m I.M. and 11/u 50m backstroke; Hallie White in PBs in 11/U 50m front crawl and butterfly, as well as a PB in 13/u 100m butterfly; Chloe Pratt and Yasir Naimi in Open 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 15/u 100m backstroke and 100m front crawl respectively, all in PB times; Open swimmer Kathleen Loveridge season PB’s in 100m I.M. and 100m front crawl; Jake Hoy 13/u 100m I.M. (PB); Finley Harper 100m front crawl (PB); and Thomas Hanley in 11/u 100m I.M.

Relay team third places were recorded by : 15/u girls (Chloe Richardson, Poppy Ludgate, Megan Dawson (12) and Hallie White (10) and 11/u girls (Chloe Cook, Kiara Kovaks, Maisie Harper, Hallie White - all 10).

Further PB times were reached by: Maisie Harper (10) 11/u 50m breaststroke and 13/u 100m front crawl, Riley Astley 11/u 50m front crawl and Freddie Allen (9) 11/u 50m butterfly.

Helping out for the relays were Harry Rayner (9) and Liam Hill (13).
