Park Ladies come from behind to beat Waterbeach and keep up pressure at top of Cambridgeshire Womens & Girls County Football League

Park Ladies travelled to Waterbeach and sealed a 3-1 win in their penultimate game of the season under glorious sunshine.

Waterbeach made a strong start, determined to make amends for defeat in last week's fixture between the two sides - which had seen Park emerge as 5-3 winners.

They took the game to Park from the off, with the visitors looking a shadow of their normal selves. They significantly struggled to get into the game during the opening quarter of an hour.

Waterbeach took a deserved lead when they drove into the area and a low cross was smashed home from six yards out.

This woke the Park ladies up, and they finally started to get the ball down and play football.

They were rewarded after winning a corner from which the ball was played in and started pin-balling around the box.

Teagan Pulman eventually found Sophie Fenner to prod home for the equaliser.

Waterbeach continued to pile the pressure on and a good stop kept them at bay; Park were glad to make it to the break on level terms.

A number of stern words were delivered from the management team before Park returned to the pitch for the second half.

This certainly did the trick as it was a much better effort from then on, with Park relaxing and beginning to play the ball along the deck on a more regular basis.

As Park got to grips with the game and ramped up the pressure, they were rewarded when a low cross into the area forced a Waterbeach defender to bundle the ball into her own net and give Park the lead.

Both teams battled hard in the warm conditions and the game was end-to-end at times, with both teams fashioning openings.

However, it was Park who added to their lead when a through ball from Pulman allowed Sherrie Downey to run through and slot past the goalkeeper.

There were further chances at both ends but none were converted, with both goalkeepers making some good stops to keep the score down.

It had been a disappointing start for the Park ladies, but they battled to get back into the game with a much improved second half performance.

Erin Fox was named player of the match for some excellent defending under pressure.

The win moved Park into second place and maintains their pressure at the top of the Cambridgeshire Womens & Girls County Football League Division 2 table.

The ladies now have a two-week break before their final game of the season away to Cambridge Rangers.
