Ladies reach last eight by beating Spalding

Wisbech 5, Spalding 2

In the Investec Women’s Trophy on Sunday, Katie Rodger brought the score level midway into the first half and Leanne Williamson turned in a penalty corner.

Further goals from Rodger who made her hat-trick with a neatly finished goal after some great attacking play from Verity Allen. Thank you to all the supporters who came down to watch.

The ladies have drawn Newcastle away in the final eight, which promises to be an exciting tie.

Watton 4, Wisbech Ladies 3

Wisbech were 3-0 down but showed character and pulled a goal back through a deflection from Claire Apted.

Watton were awarded a dubious short corner which they converted. Wisbech put on an excellent display in the last 10 minutes with goals through Georgie Dunn and a calmly converted penalty corner from Apted.

WTHC Ladies 3rds 11, Ely City 3’s 0

Goals came thick and fast with the whole team working together to get their best score of the season so far.

On Sunday in a re-arranged fixture, the team were suitably charged to continue their winning streak.

By half-time, Wisbech were 4-0 ahead with two goals coming from well-drilled short corners.

Peterborough Town 7ths 1, Wisbech Town 3rds 1

Wisbech 3rds can probably feel they could have taken all three points.

Peterborough opened the scoring. Wisbech, playing with all four Men’s goalkeepers, pushed hard and got an equaliser through Liam Woods who is quickly becoming the 3rds’ leading scorer.

The whole team played exceptionally well with both Elliot Peck and Howard Atkin having superb games.

Wisbech are at home next weekend to Alford.

Wisbech Men’s 4ths 3, Cambs South 3rds 1

In a must-win game, the younger members played well including Jamie Blades, Thomas Gregory, Jamie Howe, Jonny Garner and Jack Hill.

Next week v Leadenham (a) 2pm.

n Wisbech Town Cricket and Hockey Club hold the annual meeting of the cricket and hockey sections on February 23 at 8pm at the Pavilion.

Future plans for development of the Pavilion will be under discussion so a big turn-out of members is needed.
