Leverington Sports Ladies stormed to a Cambs Junior Invitation Cup win over Waterbeach Colts Ladies

Leverington Sports Ladies stormed to a 6-1 Cambs Junior Invitation Cup second round win over Waterbeach Colts Ladies at the weekend.

Leverington kicked off this cup tie on the back of two good wins, but still had some mounting injury worries after losing leading scorer Sophie Swinden to hamstring trouble last week.

She joined strike partner Faye Kowalewsky on the sidelines, who is nearing a return to fitness.

The versatile Amy Newell took on the striker responsibilities, and didn't disappoint; she opened the scoring after collecting a pass from Chloe Stanborough and volleying the ball into the roof of the net.

The home team were then stunned when a strange penalty decision went against them and was promptly dispatched to level the scores.

Shortly afterwards, the visitors were awarded another penalty for handball. However, this time home goalkeeper Kyra Portugal made amends and made a superb save to keep the scores level.

Inspired by their keeper's save, the home team increased the tempo of the game and took the lead shortly before half time when Shushannah Feast fed a beautiful ball into Newell, who delicately lobbed it over the advancing keeper.

Leverington went into the break 2-1 up.

Shortly after the restart, Newell flicked on a corner and Chelsea King volleyed home to continue her good for.

Stanborough then released Kayleigh Gray, who rounded the keeper and slotted home for 4-1.

The game finished 6-1, and the Leverington ladies enter the draw for the next round.
