Navy challenge and a tough half

Three Counties Running Club’s Sarah-Jane Macdonald took part in the virtual US Navy SEALs challenge.

SEAL’s (sea air and land) have a notorious reputation for undergoing some of the most intense basic training known to mankind, testing recruits both physically and mentally.

Sarah-Jane chose the toughest ‘advanced’ level, with points awarded for timed runs, with sit ups and press ups included.

The judges were very strict and video evidence had to be shown to prove you had met the criteria.

Week one was a timed 1.5 mile run followed by two minutes of sit ups (Sarah did 11:57 and 47 sit ups); week two was a timed four mile run followed by two minutes of push ups (34:06, 42 push ups); in week three, you had to complete 40 miles in seven days; and week 4 was a 14 mile endurance run as quick as possible (2:06:13).

Sarah-Jane placed 28th out of 78 competitors and finished second female overall.
