Late equaliser sees March Town draw while Wisbech Town lose at home
A late goal from Dan Cotton spared March’s blushes in a 2-2 home draw with Northampton Sileby Rangers on Saturday, but a second-half capitulation saw Wisbech Town lose 5-2 at home to Ashby Ivanhoe.
An own goal following an awful goalkeeping error saw March take the lead in their United Counties Premier South clash, but eight-place Ivanhoe replied after 30 minutes through George Herbert to make it 1-1 at half-time.
Nathan Burrows made it 2-1 in the 58th minute but Cotton popped up in the third minute of added-on time to win a point for March with a perfect free kick over the visiting wall for his sixth of the campaign. The Hares are now third in the table, five points off top spot.
On Tuesday evening March entertain Yaxley in the Hinchingbrooke Cup before G.N.G Oadby Town are the visitors next Saturday.
March: Gill, Green, Brumby, Withers (Saunders), Emmington, Burrows (Cowie), Cotton, Tait, Gillies (Pitts-Lewis), Foy, Williams (Biggs). Sub (not used): Callaghan. Star man: Adam Brumby. Attendance: 294.
Wisbech slip to within two points of the relegation area after their defeat at home to Ivanhoe. The Fenmen conceded in the first minute when Sam Grouse scored for The Knights but hit back through a Toby Allen penalty - his fifth goal of the season - after 12 minutes.
The visitors regained the lead 11 minutes later through Jordan Wilson, only for the home side to hit back through an own goal to make it 2-2 at the break.
But it was all Ivanhoe in the second half and they made it 3-2 in the 53rd minute with Grouse’s second, Chris Acott in the 71st minute made it four and Will Groocock completed the scoring in added on time.
Next Saturday, The Fenmen travel to play mid-table Heanor Town.
