Dream debut for Lennie Murkin (16)

Lennie Murkin (16) made a dream debut in adult National Bangers at King’s Lynn with some storming drives at the weekend, which netted him two chequered flags.

The Murkin name has an impressive pedigree in National Bangers over the years and Lennie had previously shown great form in the Junior Bangers, reaching the star grade.

National Bangers are a very different story and although Lennie was expected to impress on his debut, nobody expected him to produce the drive which he did in his first race in the 1500cc Bangers, which saw him take the chequered flag.

If that wasn’t enough, he repeated the feat in the second heat before coming home in a more than credible sixth place in the final.

There were also great performances in the National Bangers from Kieran Bowman, taking home an entertainer award in the 1500cc Bangers before guiding the Predators to the entertainer title in the 2L Bangers in the War of the Worlds. He also guided the team to second place in the main points.

There were also some excellent performances from local drivers in the Junior Bangers which saw Rhys Parrin show that he will not be a white top for very long by taking a heat victory, while British Grand Prix champion Louie Cottrill was also a heat winner.

A big pile up in the final ended the hopes of many of the fancied runners with Faversham’s Paul Chapman taking the flag and Lennie’s brother Levi the best finisher in eighth place.

Racing returns to the Adrian Flux Arena this weekend with a night of old school front wheel drive National Banger with the bluebirds and cavaliers in action with other similar cars and the Almeras and Sunnys in action together with the 1300 Stock Cars racing on Saturday (5.30pm).

The Big Van Bangers, Siamese Bangers, Robins and 2L Stock Cars are in action on Monday (1pm).

Local drivers in action on Saturday include Dan and Brad Wright and James Licquorice in both Banger formulas, Kieran and Brad Bowman in the Bluebird type cars, Joe Geeves in the Sunny type cars and Karl Morris, John and Dean Moat, John and Ross Klyn and Ant Kerr in the 1300 Stock Cars
