James Licquorice in great form at latest King's Lynn stock car racing
James Licquorice consolidated his position at the top of the Unlimited Banger World of Shale Entertainer Points with another stellar performance at King’s Lynn on Saturday.
He was in great form from the get-go, and initially looked a good bet in the 2022 White and Yellow Final, which was the first race of the day.
Licquorice hit the front immediately the green flag fell. After being caught up, he reverted to entertaining the crowd - and when he saw the parked Limousine of Coventry’s Martin French, he weighed in full speed with a massive hit, earning the Wisbech star a merit award.
That followed an outstanding week in the 2L Bangers last Saturday where he achieved a unique treble by picking up an entertainer award in every race he competed in.
That feat has only been achieved a couple of times before, and so Licquorice will have been pleased to keep up his excellent form.
At the other end of the scale, 2009 National Points champion James Ellis rolled back the years with a sublime display in his Mk2 Ford Granada.
He glided around the shale to produce some great results, including a fourth place in the White and Yellow Championship and a third place finish in his heat.
His heat battle with Lee Clarke for third spot was a joy to behold and was reminiscent of the drives which Ellis regularly produced week in week out a decade ago, and left the Wisbech ace with a big smile after the meeting.
There was further success for local drivers later in the night when Tom Waller took the chequered flag in the East Anglian Final.
Nicky Young was unlucky when he took a lot of damage in the White and Yellow Championship in his exceedingly smart limo and failed to appear for the rest of the night.
His brother Nathan was in the wars throughout the night, while also in the thick of the action throughout the night were Andrew Parrin, Lee Barnes and Joe Geeves.
Jacob Downey was making the headlines in the 2L Stock Cars.
He was in great form in his first heat, showing fantastic form as he battled at the head of the pack with Ryan Santry, with Downey eventually coming home in second.
Things went downhill in the second race, however, when he was on the receiving end of a big hit which ended up putting him on his side.
Tommy Parrin was also in the results throughout the day with a seventh place finish in his heat.
Riley Crowson was in great form in the Junior Bangers with victory in the White and Yellow Final, which also saw Jade Ellis come home in fourth place.
Levi Murkin was the best finisher in the meeting final with a third place finish, and he finished in fourth spot overall.
Racing returns this Saturday at 5pm when the BriSCA F1 and F2 Stock Cars are in action.
Callum Gill will be looking to build on his great start to the F1 season, while the F2 stock cars are also in action.
