Long Sutton on fine form
LSHC Men 7, City of Peterborough 3rds 1
Sutton found fine form on Saturday, spraying the ball around to all areas of the pitch and causing all sorts of problems.
Sisson fired home to open the scoring. Further strikes came from Cook and in the second half Fyson two, man of the match Sisson two more and James Grant. Sutton produced the best composed performance of the season.
LSHC Men’s 2nd 3,
Spalding 2nds 2
Spalding were soon two goals ahead from well worked short corners.
Pressure was applied, short corners won and first Ben Shore scored from one, then Gavaghan equalised from another. Sutton raised their game in the second half and another short corner was excellently finished by Shore.
Five wins and a draw in the last seven games has given the side hopes of staying in this division.
LSHC Men’s 3rd 2,
Cambridge South 4ths 1
This third win on the bounce lifted the team out of the relegation zone in 5NW.
Sutton goals: Will White and substitute James Slator before the break.
Louth 2nds 5,
LSHC Men’s 4th 1
Long Sutton’s second 11am start at Louth this season produced a similar result – a home win.
It was 2-1 at half-time with Ian White’s short corner having negated Louth’s early breakthrough.
By the quirks of the fixture list, the fourths will face the same opposition within eight days.
LSHC Ladies 5, City Of
Peterborough 2nds 2
Long Sutton put on a hard press with forwards Woodhead and Baker.
With good linking play from Gribble, Southgate, Carr and Woodhead the ball was played into Woodhead who got the ball away but a rebound from the keeper saw the ball at the stick of Gribble whose strike lifted into the net.
Peterborough levelled but Sutton replied via Baker (2), her second a deflection from Woodhead, a flick from White and Woodhead.
PoM was Lisa Baker for her tracking back and work rate.
