Long Sutton leapfrog St Ives in standings following Division 2NW victory
Long Sutton leapfrogged St Ives in the Division 2NW table and now sit third in the league standings going into a crucial stage of the season.
Joshua Fyson helped himself to a short-corner hat-trick in the club’s latest success.
The returning holidaymakers of Frazer Watt and Brad Sargeant gave the side hope as Long Sutton went toe-to-toe with the Saints from the first whistle.
A couple of early chances were well snuffed out by the defence of Luke Proctor, Fyson, Michael Donaghy and Dan Oldfield.
At the other end of the pitch, the forward lines of Will Taylor, Daniel Plant, Watt and Sargeant were dangerous, as always.
McKenzie East and Sam Gray gave St Ives plenty to think about in the middle of the park before Fyson converted two short corner routines in the opening 25 minutes.
St Ives replied before the interval.
Long Sutton's short corner routine came up trumps again as Fyson completed his hat-trick.
The quartet of Plant, Gray, East and Watt ran tirelessly in the latter stages while Sargeant was unfortunate not to increase Long Sutton's advantage.
