Long Sutton under-13s enjoying life in Division Six of Peterborough and District Junior Alliance
A newly-formed football team in Fenland are flying high in their first-ever season together.
Long Sutton U13s are currently top of the pile in Division Six of Peterborough and District Junior Alliance, having won eight of their opening nine games in league and cup this season.
The team was formed after Stacey Mills and her good friend Anya Kerry took the plunge to become fully qualified FA coaches after applying for an FA grant to encourage women into coaching football.
Long Sutton U13 is very much a family affair with the manager's sons Ryan Mills and Connor Goy playing in the team and husbands Craig Kerry and Gavin Mills coaching the side.
Stacey explained: "We started to advertise our team Long Sutton Athletic under-13s and we were overwhelmed with the response from children and parents.
"We manage and the husbands Craig and Gavin coach. We started as a team in June this year and Gavin and Craig have done a fantastic job training the children.
"In total, we have 18 children on our team and I want to say a massive well done to every single one of them.
"They train rain, shine, day and night and this dedication and hard work has led us to be undefeated in our league.
"From when we started this time last year with two boys who just wanted to get outside and play football to 18 children undefeated in their first season as a team is an unbelievable feeling and I am unbelievably proud of every single one of them."
Stacey added: "I also want to thank the parents for turning out week after week for bringing their children and supporting them, our sponsors Emerald Homes, Chews Pawfection and HPS Builders."
