Wisbech Town boss Alex Street looks for consistency after great effort in loss to leaders Sherwood Colliery

Wisbech manager Alex Street is looking for his team to find the consistency that has eluded them all season as they head into the final third of the season.
After a poor home defeat against AFC Mansfield two weeks ago was followed up by an unlucky loss at leaders Sherwood on Saturday, the next three games will make it five on the trot against opponents from Nottinghamshire.
The Fenmen entertain lowly Newark & Sherwood United this coming weekend and then face off against play-off hopefuls Eastwood away and then home over the following two Saturdays.
With 12 games remaining, Street said: “It is now about getting a bit of consistency moving forward and if we can continue playing as we did at Sherwood I will be happy. We still have to improve some of their fitness levels too.
“If you were watching that game you would not have said it was top versus 12th, it was two competitive teams slogging it out on a tough pitch.”
Wisbech gave a spirited performance against the leaders but the home side still kept up their undefeated home record with a goal in either half.
Former Cambridge City and Yaxley defender Alfie Wren started on the left against Sherwood and has signed for the club.
The 32-year-old started his career with Dagenham & Redbridge and also played for Barkingside.
Wisbech held the home side in check for much of the first half and went close themselves after 18 minutes when Harry Grigas fired just wide when he really should have scored.
However, they gave away a penalty three minutes into added-on time when keeper Dan George was adjudged to have impeded Jacob Pearce and it was converted by Craig Westcarr to make it 1-0 at the break.
The visitors were far from done though and Toby Allen saw two shots saved in the opening period of the second half, Grigas again and pat Kacirek both went close and Andre Williams fired inches wide.
But Colliery made the visitors pay for those misses when they attacked on the break and Kieran Knight made it 2-0 in the 75th minute. Wisbech slip to 14th in the table but are still 14 points clear of the relegation spot with 12 games remaining.
Street added: “We’ve lost 2-0 but I’m not too disappointed. I thought we were excellent. But we missed a couple of golden chances and that’s the difference – when you come to places like this you must take them.
“Sherwood have got a lot of know-how and experience. The game had very few chances – they had two shots on target and scored two, including a penalty. A point would have been a fair result.
“There were some great performances out there and as a team we defended excellently. Ethan (Wilson) and Oli (Williams) played really well and Harry Twite was excellent at the back.”
