Former King’s Lynn Town Reserves and Dereham left-back Tom McLeish, who signed from Norwich Utd, had a good 90 minutes after signing.

Hares boss Brett Whaley said: “We needed a clean sheet – we’ve conceded too many goals. It’s been four or five games since we’ve got a clean sheet.

“We had a chat with the boys: it’s okay being highest scorers in the league but can we do the other bit as well?

“There were a few little things we tried to address and they all came off so it was a good day all-round.”

On Tom McLeish, Whaley added: “He’s a good organiser. It’s quite nice to sign that sort of player.”

Craig Gillies was a hat-trick hero as March climbed to fifth place in the division. Recent signing, striker Dylan Edge from Yaxley, was also in their starting line-up.

A belter from Jack Friend put March one up after 21 minutes and Gillies scored his first within 60 seconds. Gillies netted two more before substitute Toby Allen made it five. Hares man of the match was captain Gav Cooke.

March Town: Congreve, Burrows, Mcleish, Emmington, Cooke (c), Short, Edge, Moxon, Friend, Gibson, Gillies. Subs: Rawson, Rothery, Warren, Hamza, Allen.

On Saturday March Town United entertain 13th-spot Great Yarmouth Town.

March have been drawn away at Newmarket Town in the semi final of the Cambs Invitation Cup.

The match will be played on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, kick off 7.45pm
