Fenland Citizen report for March Town, Wisbech Town and Chatteris cricket sides on weekend of June 4-5 2022
March Town 2nds picked up their second win of 2022 by beating Cambs CCA Senior League Division 1 visitors Abington by five wickets on Saturday in the Fenland Citizen game of the day.
Abington posted 200-7 from 45 overs, with March cruising to 202-5 in 42.2 overs.
Meanwhile, March Town lie in ninth after their bowlers continued to struggle in an eight-wicket Cambs Whitings Division 1 defeat at Old Leysians.
March set a useful 204-9 in 50 overs.
Udana Ranathunga's 101 not out from 127 balls with 10 fours rescued the visitors from 64-7, adding an unbeaten 39 for the final wicket with Ross Clarke (no 12).
Lewis Welcher had scored 27, and skipper Samuel Clarke 11.
But Old Leysians powered to 205-2 to win with 17 overs to spare - owing to an undefeated 115 by Andrew Bramley off just 94 balls after Samuel Clarke (1-47) and Aron Visser (1-66) had reduced them to 17-2.
March 3rds are one off the bottom of CCA Junior League 3 North after losing to Cherry Hinton by six wickets.
March reached a modest 105-9 in 40 overs.
Cherry Hinton then smashed 108-4 from 14 overs.
Elsewhere, unbeaten Cambs & Hunts Premier League leaders Wisbech Town notched their sixth maximum 30-point success of the season when they beat Histon by 46 runs.
Away side Wisbech managed 271-7 when their 50 overs closed in Whiting & Partners Division 1.
Opener Gary Freear hit 24, wicket-keeper Josh Bowers 45 off 57 deliveries, Sam Albutt 40 from 42 balls, overseas player Ryan Clark 58 off the same amount of balls with nine boundaries, and skipper James Williams 58 off balls.
Aussie Clark and Williams added 85 for the sixth wicket.
Despite a thumping 111 by William Brown, who rescued the hosts from 81-5, Wisbech's attack were in control and Histon made 225 all out in 48.1 overs.
George Gowler grabbed 1-47, Kieran Haynes 4-49 from ten overs, Josh Porter 1-14, Freear 1-39 and Clark 1-42.
Wisbech have a 42-point lead over Cambridge St Giles, who do have a match in hand.
Eighth-placed Wisbech 2nds beat AK XI by four runs after posting 193 all out with five balls remaining.
Jamie Gollands starred with 58 and Jason Esser 43 in Division 3.
AK XI were dismissed for 189 in 41.3 overs.
Rhys Howell (4-43) shone with the ball, while Gollands took the final wicket to fall - caught by Thomas Hoyle.
Basement side Wisbech 3rds picked up their first CCA Junior League 2 North victory of the campaign against second-from-bottom Over and Willingham.
Wisbech posted 205-9 from 40 overs. Opener Brad Williams struck 62, Darren Purell was caught for 79 and keeper Elliott Peck 18.
Over replied with 169 all out in 34.1 overs.
Jack Woollard took 2-36, Oliver Overland a tidy 8-3-26-3, Finlay Murdoch 1-36, Matt Duff 1-38 and Henry Plume 2-18.
Chatteris are fifth in CCA Senior League Division 1 after suffering a swift nine-wicket loss to away side City of Ely.
The hosts were skittled for 71 in 27 overs. City of Ely cruised to 73-1 in 13 overs to go ten points ahead of Chatteris.
Chatteris 2nds are fourth after losing in CCA Junior League 2 North to their City of Ely counterpart hosts by five wickets.
Chatteris were dismissed for 189 in 39.5 overs. Keeper Charlie Munns made 10, skipper Oli Bailey 41, Harry Matthews 78 with 13 fours and a six, Liam Boxall 10, Oliver Tilbrook 13 and Archie Wathen 11
City made 194 / 5 in 27.4 overs in reply: Tilbrook took 1-30, Wathen 2-30, Clive Welsman 1-56 and Peter Gunn 1-24.
