Cambs League cricket batting collapses for Wisbech, March
March and Wisbech first XIs warmed up for their Cambs League cricket derby at March on Saturday with batting collapses in their losses last weekend.
In Whitings Cambs & Hunts Premier League Division 1, Wisbech fell foul of Eaton Socon’s opening pair in losing to the visitors by five wickets on Saturday.
Eaton Socon opening bowler Wade Lezar bagged figures of 10-2-41-5, and partner Joe Dawborn 3-19. Top order batsmen Jason Young, Josh Bowers and Chris Clark were all dismissed for ducks by Lezar as Wisbech collapsed to 46-6.
William Gowler (35) smashed five fours and a six off 28 balls to rescue the hosts from a disastrous 77-8.
Gowler added 32 with Brodie Ellis for the ninth wicket and 15 for the final partnership with number 11 Kieran Haynes, who did not score.
The Harecroft Road home side made Eaton Socon battle to reach their modest target.
Meanwhile, the March top order are low in confidence, as they lost by 95 runs to Ramsey at The Avenue.
Chasing 251 for victory, 69-6 about summed up the day for the home side, who badly missed suspended skipper Tyler Phillips.
The final total of 155 was again boosted by some positive batting by the lower middle order and a top score of 37 from ‘extras’.
The March 2nd XI bounced back from the previous week’s defeat against CCA Senior League Division 2 leaders Longstanton, to beat Hardwick by four wickets.
The home side were restricted to 204-5, with Manuj Patel producing the top figures of 2-24.
Third team skipper Anthony Henson’s unbeaten 47 was the highlight of the March 206-6 reply.
Sixteen-year-old leg-spinner Geoff Kirby produced a six wicket haul for March 3rds, who nipped a tight one wicket victory away to Needingworth 2nd XI in CCA Junior League Division 3N.
