March Bears make it ten wins from as many games with big win at Mildenhall
March Bears have achieved the unthinkable by making it a perfect 10 wins from as many games with a 66-0 success over Mildenhall.
The Bears have racked up 409 points in the first 10 matches with only 65 against to leave the club in a fantastic position going into the second half of the season.
Several changes were made from the previous week due to injury and unavailability but the squad is so strong that they were able to replace and come out and deliver another highly-organised and powerful display.
Will Paul fed captain Billy Dean for the first try, converted by Sam Howat, and in a blink of an eye Callum Campbell went over for a second try in the space of three minutes and Howart converted again.
On the stroke of half-time, an exquisite run by Will Paul saw him feed Billy Dean who took a great angle and crashed over between the posts and the corner flag.
After the restart, Danny Grieve gathered a very long pass and flipped it to Callum Campbell who went over in the corner for his second and Howart duly added his fourth conversion.
Playing now with 14 men didn’t seem to make any difference to the Bears and a good move saw the ball being fed out with Leon Tulip taking the last pass and going over powerfully with several Mildenhall players hanging on to him.
Paul converted with Howat serving a few minutes in the sin bin.
Three minutes later Bears repeated the same move and this time Billy Dean went over near the corner for his hat-trick.
Mildenhall were now tiring badly and midway through the half Will Paul kicked over the Mildenhall backs and gathered on the way through and with his pace nobody was going to catch him as he went over between the sticks, converted by Howat.
Two minutes later, another high ball saw the Mildenhall winger drop the ball and Paul was on to it like lightening, scooped it up and went over again near the posts.
Unfortunately, the Red Lodge fly-half saw that colour and decided to swing a leg at Paul as he was on the ground after scoring to leave the referee no option but to send him from the field of play.
After this Sam Howat converted again.
March were now in total command and it was becoming a question of how many points they could rack up before the end .
After 74 minutes some poor handling by Red Lodge allowed Bryn Pughsley to gather the ball and take off and score with Howat as normal, adding the extras.
With the final whistle imminent Bears had a final set piece scrum and a simple backs move saw Callum Campbell go over and score his third try of the afternoon to gain a very deserved Man of the Match award.
Sam Howat converted this final score to wrap up a convincing win.
