March members pushed to the limit with endurance events
March Athletic Clubs Malcom Hunt competed in the Elephant, Bear and Bull 100 miler last weekend.
The conditions were very tough with wet and muddy footpaths throughout.
This year marked the 50th edition of the LDWA’s annual 100 mile challenge, and the first time that it has visited the Midlands - called the Elephant, Bear and Bull 100 after the traditional symbols of Coventry, Warwickshire and Birmingham, through which the route passes.
Of the 33 entrants, ten retired due to the challenging course, but Hunt finished in 37 hours and 47 minutes.
A heroic performance on the course with treacherous slippery brick paths with a real risk of ending up in the canal.
Elsewhere, Ryan Jarvis, the marathon man, took on his longest race yet.
He took to the Thames Path 100 miler and of the approximately 350 starters only around 200 finished.
Jarvis described the course as super tough in particular the stretches of mud and puddles for miles and miles.
The long distance superstar finished in 25 hours and 55 minutes as he took on his biggest challenge to date.
He continued his fundraising journey and has currently raised £4198 for SS John and Elizabeth charity.
Alan Brown joined the group of 100 mile stars as he ran the Five Rivers 100 mile race, clocking a time of 29.10.14.
An amazing effort on the tough course with lots of inclines. Brown was one of the only 14 finishers, further showing the difficulty of the event.
