March Town United lose opening game
March Tn Utd 0
Halstead 1
The Hares went down to a resolute Halstead side in their Thurlow Nunn First Division season opener.
It was a fairly even contest, although March had the better of the early play and the better of the chances, but only testing the keeper properly on three occasions.
The game livened up for a while in the second period. However again the Hares lacked penetration and cohesion.
Halstead were well-organised and strong at the back and when they hit the post after 65 minutes the threat became clear.
Some 10 minutes later they defended a dangerous free-kick but raced down the park with speed to nick the vital goal.
They could have had another but for a smart save.
March travel to Diss Town, who Wisbech have just beaten in the FA Cup, next Saturday.
On Thursday the Hares U18 side defeated near-neighbours Downham 7-2 in their first game of the season.
