March Town Cricket Club move to eighth in Cambs & Hunts Whitings League while Chatteris see of Wisbech side
A welcome maximum points win saw March Town Cricket Club move up to eighth in the Cambs & Hunts Whitings League after they defeated hosts Cambridge St Giles by 42 runs on Saturday.
March reached 158-4 off 26 overs in a Division 1 game reduced by rain, which affected many matches on the day.
Away opener Alex Millard laid a foundation with 26, overseas player Aron Visser 21, Udana Ranathunga not out 25 off 24 balls, David Haslegrave 16 and Curtis Oldroyd a swift not out 34 from just 13 balls with four sixes.
St Giles faced a revised target of 188 from 26 overs. Samuel Clarke (5-44), who took the first five wickets to fall, reduced them to 12-3 and they were not in the hunt at 95-7.
They eventually made 146 all out in 22.5 overs.
Other wicket-takers were Callum Young 2-23, Shae Pooley 2-26 and Visser 1-1 as March bagged 30 points.
March 2nd XI's match with Longstanton Grasshoppers was abandoned, so both sides recorded five points.
Longstanton Grasshoppers 2nd conceded against March 3rds, who grabbed 20 points.
Wisbech Town's Whiting & Partners Division 1 match was abandoned at Eaton Socon.
League leaders Wisbech enjoy a 49-point lead over their hosts, who happen to be their nearest rivals and have a game in hand.
Chatteris 2nds are in third after defeating visitors Wisbech 3rds in a CCA Junior League 2 North derby by eight wickets.
Basement side Wisbech made 167-9 in a 30-over match. Martin Woollard made 16, Jack Woollard 65 with eight fours, Joshua Osbourne 27 and Mark Buttriss 12.
Peter Gunn bagged 3-17, Gugan Kupendran 1-45, Harry Matthews 2-32 and Liam Boxall 2-13.
Chatteris cruised to 171-2 in the 29th over. Daniel Berrill (44) and Charlie Munns (55) put on a 91 opening stand, each hitting four boundaries. Both unbeaten to finish the job, Harry Matthews made 42 off just 30 balls and Oli Bailey 15.
Lee Hoenderkamp grabbed 1-27 and Jack Woollard 1-31.
Fourth-placed CCA Junior League 5 North side Wisbech 4ths lost a home thriller to Telugu Association of Cambridge 3rds, who are in second place, by one wicket.
Wisbech were 161 all out from 39 overs.
Telugu Association crept over the line at 164-9 in 35.2 overs.
Ninth-spot Wisbech 2nds lost at home to Eaton Socon 2nds by 44 runs in Division 3.
Eaton Socon posted 193-4 from 40 overs. Brodie Ellis captured 1-36, Chris Clark 2-25 and Ian Bell 1-34.
Wisbech were dismissed for 149 in 31.5 overs. Thomas Hoyle struck 11, Rhys Howell 23, Ross Gardner 40 and Clark 13.
Chatteris triumphed at Horseheath by 57 runs to go fifth in CCA Senior League Division 1.
Chatteris put 192-8 on the board from 35 overs.
Horseheath replied on 135 all out with one ball remaining.
Wimblington beat friendly visitors Telugu Association of Cambridge by eight wickets.
Telugu set 145-8 off 25 overs.
Wimblington replied with a confident 146-2 with 15 balls to spare.
