Wisbech continue their climb up Counties 2 Eastern Counties League table with home victory over Wymondham
Wisbech secured a third consecutive win in a row since the ill-fated draw with Ipswich YM at the beginning of the month.
In the first four minutes, Wisbech dominated the ball, and, after an inspired pass from Luke Hare found tight head prop Kerrie McMullen who powered his way over for the opening try to take the lead 5-0.
Five minutes later Wisbech won the penalty, kicked for touch to set up an attacking lineout eight meters from the try line.
From a driving maul, the forwards powered their way over the try line, Luke Hare the beneficiary doting it down.
Skipper Jack Malkin converted to extend Wisbech’s lead to 12-0.
However, Wymondham showed grit and determination to score a well-worked converted try of their own to reduce the home side's lead to 12-7.
This foreshadowed a period of scintillating attacking play from Wisbech, who looked threatening with every phase of play.
From an attacking Wisbech scrum, the ball was carried for three phases, this time loose-head prop Luke Green the recipient of the offload, which put him through the gap for the try 17-7.
Minutes later Luke Green was forced to leave the pitch with an injury.
As the whistle blew for half-time, the hosts went into the break high on confidence.

After a quick tap-and-go from Jack Malkin, the ball was shipped through a couple of hands before Solomon Prestidge offloaded to Henry Lankfer who with a powerful surge broke through the stubborn Wymondham defence before being stopped three meters from the try line.
From the ensuing quick ruck, Jack Malkin found Prestidge who forced his way over the try line.
Malkin was on target with the conversion to increase the Men in Red’s lead to 24-7
Wymondham were not going down without a fight and scored their second converted try of the match to bring the scores to 24-14.

The action continued as this time Wymondham came forward and scored a try of their own bringing the score to 31-19.
Wisbech responded and quickly got back on the front foot, dominating the ball deep in Wymondham territory before winning a penalty.
From the quick tap and go the ball found Henry Lankfer who beat two defenders before powering over to score a converted try under the post.
Wymondham then sparked a flurry of fine attacking moves to set the game up for a cagey final five minutes but, it would be Wisbech’s defence that would deny the visitors a four-try bonus point.
The Men in Red showed resolve, tenacity and togetherness, which would at the full-time whistle see them secure the bonus point 38-19 victory.
The first team will have a week’s break before heading to Thurston for their final league match before turning their attention to the County Cup semi-final.
On Saturday, Wisbech Vets will be in action when they welcome a Stamford XI to Harecroft Road (3pm).
