Wisbech Swimming Club’s Millie Harris impresses at British Swimming Championships

Wisbech Swimming Club’s Millie Harris put in a series of impressive performances at the British Swimming Championships.

At the East Region Long Course Championships earlier this year, she secured gold, silver and bronze medals - subsequently being invited to the British Championships and the National Summer Meet.

Millie’s Nationals adventure began in late July with the 50m butterfly heats – where she missed a place in the final by just quarter of a second.

Undaunted, she returned to Sheffield with Wisbech Swimming Club head coach Greg Marsters on August 6 for the 100m butterfly.

Second in her heat, Millie achieved a new long course (50m pool) personal best of 1:07.71 - securing a place in the in the 14/U age group final.

She turned second after a powerful first 50m, before finishing fifth against a very strong field. Just 0.59 seconds separated Millie and the medal positions, and she achieved yet another personal best of 1:07.39.

After the event, Greg commented: "Millie was incredible in the run-up to the competition and she’s a role model for the rest of her team, showing what hard work and determination can achieve. At Wisbech Swimming Club we believe that every swimmer should be coached to achieve their full potential and Millie has shown what this can mean.

“She joined the club aged 8 and showed obvious talent even at this young age. Since then, her determination and positive attitude have helped her compete at national level and I believe we can expect more great things from Millie in the future."
