Jordan Gill hails new gym in Wisbech as one of the best he has seen in the world
The opening of a new 24-hour gym in Wisbech – described as one of the best in the world – is expected to have a positive impact on people's lives across Fenland.
Boxcross UK, based at Regal Road in the town, opened its doors to the public for the very first time on Saturday.
The new enterprise is a business venture between Gareth Watts, Damien Pearl and Chatteris boxer Jordan Gill.
Damian said: "We're bringing a fresh and exciting approach to fitness that's accessible to everyone. I'm really excited about the positive impact this will have on our community's health.
"It’s more than a gym – it's a place where people can come together to get fit and have fun.
"Our main aim was to establish a sustainable venture for Jordan post his boxing career, while also creating a stable income source for all of us.
"Together, Gareth and I have successfully run several businesses, and we're excited to extend this expertise to Boxcross UK.
"Our vision extends beyond just one gym – we plan to expand across the East of England and integrate these gyms with our white-collar boxing league.
"This expansion is not just about business growth; it’s about creating jobs and securing futures for many. We’re already working towards opening our next location in Peterborough, marking a significant step in our broader vision.
"Our next white collar show is planned for March 9 so we will start recruiting for that in the coming days.
"If anyone would like to do the free eight-week transformation and raise money for charity we are accepting names now on our website."
A number of local dignitaries were at Saturday's grand opening, including Wisbech mayor Peter Human along with former British, Commonwealth, European and IBO world champion, Lerone Richards, Leo Delanzo and a handful of professional fighters.
Gill, fresh from his victory over Michael Conlan in the ring, took time to talk about the gym before doing an open workout on the pads.
"It used to be a factory to make suitcases and luggage and things, so we had the empty shell of a building," he said
"It was even more of an industrial building, so we had to come in and renovate the whole place.
"We've put in a suspended ceiling in, all brand new flooring, we've painted the walls, there's murals all over the walls.
"We've got two rings for the boxing and bags up for the boxing, different kinds of bags, big heavy bags and water bags, speed balls and skipping ropes.
"We've got a room full of machine weights and heavy dumbbells so people can get all the machine weights done, we've got a big cross-fit section with a sled track and Olympic lifting area, biometric boxes.
"There's running machines, we're going to have a curve treadmill stair master, water bikes, air bikes, rowing machines, skiers, studio weights and a little shop.
"It's probably the best gym I've ever been to and I've been to gyms all over the world."
Gill hopes the new venue will help more people become active in the area.
"For me, I feel the benefit of training and I feel the benefit of being healthy and feeling good and I don't want everyone else to as well," he said.
"So this is going to be a great start and if it can make a positive impact on people's mental health or physical health or just improve their lifestyles and make them better and happier in themselves and more active I'll be happy."
