March Town sign James Hill-Seekings and Lil Francisco
March Town have boosted their attacking options by signing striker James Hill-Seekings.
The forward joins the Hares having helped Bourne Town win the United Counties League Premier Division North play-offs and reach the quarter-finals of the FA Vase last season.
The prolific Hill-Seekings was Bourne’s top goalscorer in both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. Last year he played 18 games and scored three goals, taking his overall record to 72 goals in 98 games for the club.
It’s a second signing in quick succession for March boss Ashley Taylor, who has also landed Lil Francisco from Yaxley.
The Hares were keen to add to their ranks after losing the services of Harvey Henderson and Josh Burrows to Step 4 St Neots and Bourne respectively.
“I can say this now – we’ve lost Hendo and Burrows,” Taylor said.
“We wish them both well. It’s been done the right way, and we’d never stand in the way of a player moving up.”
The timing of the exits, however, left March short on numbers and he’s had to adjust his plans.
“They came a bit out of the blue, so the plan had to change,” he added.
“It’s difficult right now, to be honest. There’s a lot of competition for players and a lot of money being thrown about, but we’re doing what we can.”
March suffered a 1-0 defeat against Wisbech last Wednesday in front of a crowd of around 350 and followed that up with a 1-0 victory over Grantham Town on Saturday.
“Pre-season is about finding out where we’re at,” Taylor said.
“We’ve had tough games - Boston, Wisbech, and now Grantham - but I’d rather that than winning meaningless games. These tests show us what we need to work on.”
March were due to visit Parson Drove on Tuesday night but return to RGF Lane on Friday night for their final pre-season match, against Deeping Rangers (kick-off 7.45pm).
The club are currently looking for volunteer scouts to join their team. The role will involve attending local matches and providing live scouting reports. No previous experience is required, though having an FA Level 1 Introduction to Talent Identification is preferred.
