Spriggs leads the way at Tydd Gote

With overcast conditions and the threat of rain showers, there was an expectation that the bream might feed at the Tydd Gote Sunday club match at Main Road, but it wasn't to be.

Paul Spriggs led the way with an all-silver fish net of 8lb 12oz that included some good roach and skimmers, caught on pinkie over groundbait and squatt from peg 22.

Dennis Houghton was on the favoured end peg 35 but could only tempt a solitary bream on worm to go with his silvers for his second placed 5lb 7oz, closely followed by Martyn Thomas on peg 30 with a single bream for 4lb 11oz.

Backing weights fell away, with only small roach willing to feed and even then not in any great numbers, Martin Roper taking fourth with 3lb 12oz from peg 32.

Wednesday Open: 1 John Taylor 9lb 10oz, 2 Dennis Houghton 5lb, 3 Don Green 4lb 11oz.

Thursday evening: 1 Sammy McSpadden 7lb 10oz, 2 Archie Greenwood 7lb 4oz, 3 Pete Emery 3lb 4oz.
