Matt Webster of Loughborough University was quickest with 22.13 in the penultimate week of Wisbech Wheelers’ Tuesday evening series on an evening when rain and road spray caused many riders to assume cancellation.

The roads started to dry and the competitors who turned up were able to race.

Dave Webster of Performance Coaching followed his son home in second with a pb for the course in 23.09 and 68 year old vet Roger Sewell of Hounslow & District CC took third. Unfortunately John Talbot, who would normally be in the mix, found a wet spot on one corner and went down, forcing him to ride back from the far end of the course with a broken collarbone.

Triathlete Matt McClure, top TT rider of Wisbech Wheelers this season, is in excellent form and took second place overall in the Ely Triathlon at the weekend and was easily the fastest in the bike section against some strong competition. And in the ECCA 12-hour Championships Andrew Ward’s official distance of 214 miles did not reflect his improvements this season as he went off course and took a 30-mile detour.

Results, Tue, Aug 18, 10 miles: Ladies – R Murley 28.33, L Campion (Vet 50+) 28.55, D Hallahan (vet 60+) 33.31. Men – M Webster (Loughrough Uni) 22.13, D Webster 23.09, R Sewell (vet 60+) 24.23, M McInerney 24.29, J Faulkner (junior) 24.31.
