Penalties scupper strong drive from Wisbech ace Russell
An encouraging yet frustrating weekend as Wisbech’s George Russell, despite the car performing well, was pegged back by grid penalties following a last ditch engine change.
With just 35 minutes to go before the start of the session an issue was discovered which meant a change of engine was the only option.
After an incredible effort by the team they made the change in 40 minutes which allowed George to get out on track mid-session and set a time to secure second.
Due to the engine change Russell was hit with a 10-place penalty which was in place for all three of the races, leaving a mountain to climb on a circuit with little overtaking opportunities.
Russell battled to pick up hard-earned points, adding: “It was an extremely positive weekend with our pace and I saw that as more of a result for the team than actually fighting to finish on the podium.
“We’re having a strong end to the season so hopefully we can take that into the final round of a series in a few weeks.”
