Popular keeper Alex Street signs for Wisbech Town
There will be a new face in goal when Wisbech Town visit Deeping Rangers on Bank Holiday Monday.
The Fenmen have signed King’s Lynn Town legend Alex Street and he will be between the sticks for the United Counties League Premier Division North fixture on December 27.
Street has joined Wisbech as part of the coaching staff but will fill in when regular keeper Luke Pearson is unavailable - Pearson is suspended for the next four games after a second sending off in four games.
Planned games at home to high flying duo Loughborough Students and Quorn have been called off over the last two Saturdays because of a frozen pitch.
Street (31) played 466 times for the Linnets between 2010 and 2019, keeping 139 clean sheets, but left the club after being frozen out by former manager Ian Culverhouse.
For the last two years he has been at Step 3 Southern League Premier Division Central outfit Bedford Town, who were managed by former Wisbech boss Gary Setchell until his recent sacking.
‘Peds’ actually started his career with the Fenmen, making 63 appearances before joining Lynn as an 18-year-old.
He made dual registration appearances at Wisbech, Deeping Rangers, Spalding United and Leiston, during the 2012/13 season, but was a regular fixture between the posts as the reformed Linnets progressed from Step 5 United Counties League football to the Step 1 National League.
Assistant manager Danny Brooks told the club’s social media channels that it is hoped the popular Street will also help with player recruitment.
