Pritchard takes March pool title on sudden death

The Club Q March & District Pool League rounded off another successful summer league with a final’s day at Club Q.

The team final was a close-fought affair between USC A and Cock Inn A. The same line-up had contested the previous two finals.

From 4-2 down, Cock led 5-4 and sat one frame away from retaining their title. However, USC captain James Pritchard produced an excellent clearance from the break to level and take it to a penalty shoot-out.

In a shoot-out, five players from each team have the cue ball behind the baulk line and have to pot the black in one shot. At 3-3 it went to sudden death. Cock Inn missed, and Pritchard calmly dispatched his penalty to take the title.

The four Player of the Season competition section winners also lined up. In the semi-finals Grant Watson (Cock Inn) defeated Paul Doncaster (Braza) 2-0, and David Smith (Vine, Coates) beat Luke Amps (Red Lion) 2-1. Doncaster took third place ahead of Amps by 2-0, followed by Watson defeating Smith 2-1 in the final to lift the title for the second time.

Thanks go to the committee members who refereed the matches, and to league sponsor Raymond Sawyer of Club Q for his continued patronage.
