Races come thick and fast for Fenland Running Club




The races continue to come thick-and-fast for Fenland Running Club with a handful of members competing in the prestigious Lord Mayor’s 5k race in Norwich.

Hosted by the City of Norwich AC, the race took place over a two-lap hilly city centre course, restricted to runners capable of sub-20 minutes.

Runners were pulled out if they were over 10 minutes at the halfway point.

In an elite field of 145 runners, five FRC speedsters all completed the challenge in spectacular fashion.

Martin Jennings was 58th in 17.37; Shane Draper 102nd in 18.53; Paul Griffin 106th in 19.04; Bethan Everson 110th in 19.10 and Rod Sinnott 113th in 19.17.

Also on Saturday, the Outlaw Running and Triathlon Festival in the grounds of Holkham Hall saw Ian King, Sally King and Gilly Anderson competing in the hilly 10K race with 167 entrants.

Ian was 50th in 51.52, Anderson 156th in 1.08.54 and Sally 167th in 1:18:14.

Sunday was equally as busy with 16 FRC members in a field of 144 finishers at neighbouring March AC Spud Run five mile race with a trio of first in age group place positions (full times on page 90).

Back in Holkham Hall grounds on Sunday, FRC swimmers, cyclists and runners were competing in the team category in the Outlaw Half.

Fenland Running Club were 10th and 14th out of the 57 teams completing the gruelling course.

Overall (swim, cycle and run) times were: 5.04.24 (Phil Pilbeam 37.08; Alan Bird 2.42.17; Paul Griffin 1.42.40) and 5.14.32 (Travy Adams 35.59; Becky Murley 2.43.38; Ellen Connolly 1.52.39).

Also on Sunday, Rod Sinnott was 16th out of 215 finishers at the Thurlby 10k Village Run, whilst Carol Bowett was 127th of 307 runners and bagged a personal best at the Bassingbourn Brainstrust Half Marathon in a time of 1.55.24.

The weekend before, Becky Murley and Sarah Rippon competed in the Woodhall Spa Sprint Triathlon and in a field of 680.

Murley was 222nd in 1.22.44 and Sarah was 587th in 1.45.27.

At the same time, Tracy Adam and Julie Garner were at the Monster Racing Fetwell Sprint Triathlon with 63 finishers.

Garner was 50th in 1.33.43 and Adam was 53rd in 1.41.59.
