March and Wisbech could benefit from FA non-league restructure

A proposed Football Association restructure of the non league pyramid from Steps 4 to 6 could spell great news for two local football clubs.

The Alliance and Leagues Committees will be recommending to the FA Council that they form one additional division at Step 4, where Wisbech Town play, and two additional divisions at Step 5, which could mean promotion for March Town.

The extra Step 4 league would run from Cambridge to Lincoln and mean less travelling for Wisbech, thus attracting more fans to away games and making it easier to gain new players previously put off by long journeys in the current Northern Premier League.

March Town could be plying their trade at Step 5 next season.

As part of the proposals, 110 clubs would be upwardly moved within the pyramid at Steps 4-6.

Each club would be allocated a points per game (PPG) figure on the basis of its completed fixtures in both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons and clubs will then be ranked within their respective leagues, with the top three invited to make an application for an upward move.

March are currently joint third with Fakenham Town.
