One of Wisbech Round Table man-of-the-match award winners was Jason Luffman
First match: Ely II 0 Wisbech Wildcats 12
Ely started the game brightly, putting some phases together.
Last ditch defence from the Wildcats kept them out before they started to string a few phases together themselves.
A penalty was nudged to the corner, Wisbech Round Table man-of-the-match Jason Luffman was imperious in the lineout all evening and set up the driving maul for skipper Olly Mackett to finish the well-worked forwards try.
The game was full of huge collisions from both sides, as the young Wildcats held their ground making tackle after tackle. Some quick hands in the backs saw Paulius Tamoliunas score to secure the game, converted by Harry Newman.

In the second game of the evening, Wisbech knew they were facing a different beast to the well drilled Ely side.
It was a side full of talented individuals playing together for only the second time this season. This was shown straight from the kick off as the Fire Service number 8 ran 60 metres before finally being tackled into touch.
Wisbech started showing some organised structure to their game which they had worked on during the week at training which soon led to some lovely interplay between Nesvarbu Kas and Paulius Tamoliunas, the latter scoring his his second try of the evening, converted by Harry Newman.
Kas added a fine individual try, Newman again adding the extras before the Fire Service hit back with a try.
Freddie Napier in the unfamiliar position of fly half finished the game off with a final try, Kerrie McMullen missing the conversion.
Dave Wadsley was Wisbech Round Table man-of-the-match with his all-round performance on the pitch showing how much he has been missed this season through injury.
Wildcats skipper Olly Mackett was impressed with his side: “It’s another successful Friday night ‘under the lights’ fixtures which Wisbech have attended and we really enjoy this RFU initiative to get all players some game time.
"However I’m looking forward to our guys finally getting the opportunity to play a home game in a couple of weeks.
“It’s a huge weekend for the club this coming weekend with the Wisbech 1st XV back in action hosting a resurgent West Norfolk in the local derby and the still undefeated Wildcats travelling to top of the league Haverhill where their credentials will be truly tested.”
Wisbech director of rugby Leonard Veenendaal said: “A successful evening of competitive rugby played in true sportsmanship spirit. These RFU Friday night ‘under the light’ fixtures are a great opportunity for clubs to introduce some of their young players to adult rugby alongside some experienced players as well as an opportunity for some valued game time for players returning from injury and those who due to other commitments find it difficult to play on Saturdays.”
He continued: “Wisbech RFU take the opportunity to thank Ely RFC for hosting the Fenland Cluster and their exceptional warm and friendly hospitality on the night.”
n Training is Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm.
